Effect of addition of antispasmodic to local and systemic analgesics on pain perception during hysterosalpingography: a randomized controlled trial

<p><strong>Background: </strong>Tubal factor is responsible for most of the causes infertility, especially in our environment, and hysterosalpingography (HSG) investigation choice assessing tubal patency.<strong> </strong>Objective current study was to evaluate effect addition intramuscular hyoscine-N-butyl bromide (HBB) local systemic analgesics on pain perception during hysterosalpingography.<strong></strong></p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>This randomized controlled trial conducted at radiology departments infertility clinics four health institutions Bayelsa State, Nigeria, from January 2020 April 2022. One thousand forty infertile women undergoing were into groups, each group administered different relief methods. Pain scores steps procedure recorded. Data analysed using Statistical Product Service Solutions Windows®, version 25. Student’s t-test used compare sample means, while chi-square test proportion two who expressed procedure.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The Paracervical block+HBB appeared effective agent as receiving this medication indicated least intensity all levels except insertion speculum. The differences observed also statistically significant (p<0.05).<strong></strong></p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>Our revealed that adding HBB, an antispasmodic agent, diclofenac paracervical block significantly reduces HSG compared alone.</p>
